A Message from Dr. McMillan
Professor Sucharit Bhakdi has a hypothesis that worryingly closely aligns to my own.
The most difficult part is recognising these patterns while the scientific community shows little interest. Being proven right in five years would be little consolation when family and friends have already been lost to a condition that might have been mitigated.

Stripped nerves: Bhakdi's new theory of post-vaccine brain illness, and the UK numbers that may explain it
Authors: Dr. Philip McMillan, John McMillan
Sucharit Bhakdi proposes that mRNA vaccination triggers demyelinating disease, stripping the fatty myelin coating that insulates nerve fibres.
Oligodendrocytes, the cells that build myelin, carry unusually few protective proteins, leaving them exposed to complement-driven inflammation.
English hospital data show migraine admissions up 33 percent, multiple sclerosis up 32 percent, inflammatory polyneuropathy up 39 percent since 2016.
Bhakdi asked scientists to try hard to disprove his hypothesis, which rests on preliminary evidence and anecdotal curcumin reports.
Why this is important: Neurological illness after vaccination has lacked a clear mechanism. Proposing that complement inflammation kills the cells maintaining nerve insulation gives researchers something specific to test, and pairing it with rising hospital admissions shows why early recognition matters, as advanced cognitive decline may prove irreversible.

Millions of older adults take five or more daily medicines, and careful review can safely reduce them
Kinda Ibrahim, University of Southampton
Around 8 million people in the UK take five or more medicines daily, and 2 million take ten or more.
Ageing kidneys and livers clear drugs less efficiently, so medicines accumulate and side effects become more likely.
Tiredness, dizziness, confusion and unsteadiness from medicines can mimic ageing or dementia, raising the risk of falls and hospital admission.
Research shows medicine numbers can be cut without raising death or hospitalisation risk, even in frailty and dementia.
Why this is important: Adding a prescription is quick, while removing one rarely happens. Evidence that careful deprescribing does not generally increase deaths or hospital admissions gives doctors permission to simplify treatment, which can restore energy, steadiness and independence for older patients and lighten the daily load carried by their carers.
EDUCATION
This comprehensive data-led course focuses on the post-pandemic neurological shift. It is built around a three-driver deep dive through meningeal inflammation, choroid plexus dysfunction, cerebral microclotting, and the post-pandemic data dashboard
The Post-Pandemic Neurological Shift is a comprehensive, data-led course - built around three drivers: skull and meningeal inflammation, choroid plexus dysfunction, and cerebral microclotting.
With six modules, an interactive data dashboard, and Q&A, it takes you section by section through nine years of NHS admission data - so you understand what the numbers show and what they don't.
This is for those who want the evidence tested.
MEDICAL NEWS IN BRIEF
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
🚥 Hormone therapy is linked to slightly lower dementia risk, but it is no reason to start or stop treatment: Observational findings often reach the public as prevention advice. Here the apparent protection may simply reflect that healthier women choose hormone therapy, and trials have shown no consistent cognitive gain. Current guidance still supports hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms, not for warding off dementia.
🚥 Psilocybin given straight after repeated head impacts reduced brain swelling and tau in rats: Repeated concussion currently has little to offer beyond rest, yet it can lead to lasting cognitive harm. Finding a compound that dampens swelling, protects blood vessels and lowers a protein tied to chronic traumatic encephalopathy points toward treatments that act on the injury itself rather than its symptoms.
🚥 Engineered probiotic bacteria turn tumours into factories that make their own chemotherapy and immune activators: Chemotherapy harms healthy tissue because it travels everywhere. Building the drug inside the tumour, from a harmless precursor, confines the toxicity to where it is needed while simultaneously waking the immune system. Durable protection against later tumours suggests the body learns to recognise the cancer itself. [SOURCE]
🚥 Computationally redesigned T cell receptors made immune cells markedly better at killing cancer and infected cells: Cell therapies usually fail because engineered immune cells are not potent or durable enough. Improving the receptor scaffold rather than the target means one upgrade can strengthen treatments for many cancers and viruses at once. Fewer than half of untreated mice survived, while every treated animal did. [SOURCE]
🚥 Blocking an immune checkpoint in the brain restored cleanup cells and calmed overactive neurons in Alzheimer's mice: Most Alzheimer's drugs chase amyloid plaques with modest results. Targeting the checkpoint proteins that hold the brain's immune cells in a dormant state offers a different lever, one borrowed from cancer immunotherapy, and it restored both waste clearance and normal electrical activity in animals. 🚥 Mistimed kidney salt handling may explain why some people's blood pressure fails to fall overnight: Clinic readings miss what happens at night, yet nocturnal pressure predicts heart and kidney damage. Pointing to the clock rather than the strength of kidney rhythms suggests that when salt is processed matters as much as how much is eaten, a testable idea for future treatment timing. [SOURCE]
